Your Plane may Crash and Burn...

Yesterday was Memorial Day. And it got me thinking. I am really thankful for the men and women who have sacrificed their lives and are serving our country right now. I mean they didn't have to go and sign up. It was their decision entirely. And yet they chose to sacrifice their life for mine. And that got me thinking even more. If you don't mind I have a little allegory for you. It may sound a bit cheesy, but it puts your life in a really clear perspective. So, here goes!

Two men were traveling. Both had places to be and people to see. They were both in a rush, and they were both probably stressed out. Coincidentally, the two men had seats right next to each other. On entering the plane they were each given a parachute. The first guy was told that the parachute would improve his flight if he wore it the whole time. The second guy was told that during the duration of the flight he would have to jump out and the parachute would be the only thing between him and a most certain death.

The first guy put on his parachute. It made his seat very small and uncomfortable. But since he was told that it would improve his flight, he kept it on.
A little while later his neck started to hurt really bad and he got really hot with it on. But since he was told that it would improve his flight, he kept it on.
An hour passes and he still wears the parachute. The flight attendant told him that it would improve his flight, but so far nothing better had happened.
Finally, he throws off his parachute and hunkers down in his seat for the rest of the flight.

The second was told that the parachute would save his life. Upon sitting down he immediately put it on and held on to it with both hands.
A little while later he got uncomfortable, hot, and sweaty. But he still kept it on because he knew that it would save his life.
An hour later he got restless and started to walk around the plane. He then returned to his seat even more grateful for his parachute because he knew that it would save his life.

Here's the moral of the story.
The first guy is basically everyone who is not a christian.
The second guy is everyone else who is a christian.
And the parachute, is Jesus.
So often people put on Jesus. They decide that they are going to try him out for a little while not knowing exactly what He can do for you.
When the going gets tough or nothing good happens to them after a while. They throw Him down and decide to never go back to Him.
But people like the second guy are the Christians who really know what Christ has done for them. They know that the only way for them to live, to go to heaven, and not to hell in eternal damnation, is to grasp that parachute. It is their lifeline. Their saving grace. And it is.
It is that simple.
You have to be that second guy. Know that Christ is your parachute. You are living in a crashing plane. Any second your plane is going to crash and burn. You can decide to wear your parachute. Or can throw it on the ground and fall to your certain death.
Your choice. No one and nothing can make that decision for you.
So make it. And make it quick. Because you never know when your plane may crash and burn.
